Roark M. Reed

Roark M. Reed retires from three concurrent positions in Dedman School of Law - Professor, director of Clinical Education and director of the Criminal Justice Clinic. He served as associate dean for Clinical Education from 1983-88. He received his B.S., B.A. and J.D. degrees from Georgetown University. Before joining the SMU law faculty in 1975, he was director of the Criminal Justice Clinic at the Georgetown University Law Center and a staff attorney for the Public Defender Service of the District of Columbia. At the Dedman School of Law, Professor Reed has taught evidence, federal criminal trial practice, trial advocacy and criminal procedure, a course on the Japanese legal system and a seminar on the death penalty. He also taught a course on expert testimony offered jointly with the University of Texas Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Professor Reed was twice awarded a Fulbright Lectureship at the Tokyo University Law School. He has co-authored three books and written numerous articles on criminal procedure and litigation. He was on the board of advisers for the Bureau of National Affairs Criminal Practice Manual from 1986-1991 and is a lifetime honorary member of the Japanese Criminal Procedure Association. He retires as Professor Emeritus of Law.
